Scooter Safety
On Friday we had a scooter afternoon run by Newcastle Council. We learnt how to ride our scooters safely. First they showed us how to check our scooter over so we could ride them safely. Our instructors were called Barry and Gill, they were very helpful.
After than we went round a in a circle stopping and starting using our break and steering. When we got used to that, we stared to overtake each other safely. Then we went in and out of cones carefully checking where we were going. Thirdly we put the cones in to a straight line and a little gap at the top and we went along and we let people in the gap, this was tricky.
After that four people got off their scooters and pretended to be pedestrians, old grannies and dog walkers. The other four girls were on scooters trying to dodge them and being polite and say “Excuse me”. This was a practice for when we scoot round pavements at home.
Finally we played a game so Barry made an oval shape with different colours then he called out a colour and we scooted to the colour cone. Whoever was last had to sit out. It was a bit like musical chairs on scooters. I learnt lots of safety tips on my scooter and got a certificate at the end. It was a fun afternoon.
